Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Independent Care Trust™ (ICT)?

A: ICT is a solution for independent primary care providers seeking an alternative to the health insurance market. ICT is a Multiple Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA) and has been formed by providers for providers in North Carolina. The plan is designed to promote and support independent primary care delivery in North Carolina.

Q: Who is sponsoring this program?

The program is sponsored by Community Care Physician Network (CCPN).

Q: Who can participate in the plan?

A: Members of CCPN and their employees and CCNC employees are eligible to join. The employer must be headquartered in North Carolina. Individuals, on their own, cannot join the plan.

Q: What advantages does ICT have over health plans in the commercial market?

A: This plan is created for  independent physicians who value independence in many areas including their health plan needs. We know that CCPN-affiliated providers can manage and improve the health of their members and that advantage translates to a better health plan and, over time, better control over premium levels.

There is a two-tier copayment structure for the plans for primary care services to help promote use of high-quality CCPN practices. The first tier is $5 for the CCPN provider and either $25, $30 or $35 for the second tier non-CCPN provider, depending on the plan design. Out-of-network primary care is subject to deductible and coinsurance.

Q: When can I join the plan?

A: Employers can join the plan beginning January 1, 2022 and can join the first of the month at any point thereafter.

Q: Are there any requirements to join?

A: Employers must complete underwriting, the enrollment process, and provide at least 50% contribution to the employee only coverage. Additionally, at least 70% of the employees must participate in the plan. Please note that employees covered under another qualified group health plan, Medicare or Medicaid will not count toward the participation requirement.

Q: What type of plans are offered?

A: There are three copay plans and two High Deductible Health Plans that are eligible for Health Savings Accounts (HSA). These plans have a variety of deductibles ranging from $1,000 - $5,000 and a variety of other coverages. Please see the plan grid for more plan details. There is also a good spread of price points for employers based on the plan design selected.

Additionally, employers can purchase a group dental plan and a life insurance plan. These plans are not a part of the MEWA program but will be administered through consolidated billing on behalf of the employers.

Q: How do I get a quote for my group?

A: You can either send us a message to schedule a call with our information center or call 1-855-446-3227 to schedule a time to discuss your needs. This call will take between 30-50 minutes to discuss your specific health plan goals, go over the ICT plan offerings, and to begin the quoting process.
